What To Expect

What To Expect

What can I expect when I visit the Westwood Church of Christ?
First of all you will be greeted at the door by one of our members.  They are happy to help you in any way you need.  Someone will give you our church’s weekly bulletin. You can expect a loving family to welcome you and accept you for who you are.  Our goal is for you to walk out with a feeling of belonging, purpose, and direction.  Each week we, like the early church, share in the Lord’s Supper, a time of remembering Christ’s death and celebrating His resurrection.  The Bible tells us we are to examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:28) when we share this memorial feast.  Believers are welcome to join us as we focus on the sacrifice Jesus made for us and the community He commissioned as His church.  There is also a weekly offering.  Your gift to us is your presence.  Contribution is for our members, so please don’t feel like you have to participate unless you want to.  Our singing will be without instruments and the songs will be projected at the front of the auditorium.  Our message will be from the Bible and our focus will be directed towards God.

What time does everything begin?

On Sunday mornings, our first worship begins at 8:15 AM.   Our Bible classes are held following our first worship and begin at 9:30 AM.  Our second worship service begins at 10:30 AM.  Coffee is available in the HeBrews Coffee Shop downstairs from 8:45-10:30 AM.  On Sunday afternoons and Sunday nights, we have life groups that meet throughout the city in the homes of our members.  We also have several groups that meet at the church building.  You can find information on this website concerning our life groups and the times and places where they meet.

On Wednesday nights, we have classes for all ages.  We serve dinner at Mission Kitchen which begins serving at 5:45 PM.  This effort is to raise money to help those who are committed to being a part of the mission trip each summer.  You donate whatever amount you wish.  We begin our Bible study classes at 7:00 p.m. and dismiss for the night at 7:45 PM.  You can also find more information about these classes on this website.

What should I wear?

We have no dress code  You will see some men wearing suits and ties and some women wearing dresses.  But you’ll also see people wearing jeans and t-shirts.  Wear whatever makes you comfortable.  You won’t be judged.

Where should I enter?

We have several exterior doors.  The best place for you to enter is either through the front doors where the columns are located or the front doors to the sides that are also facing Morrison Road.  There will be someone to greet you at each of these doors.

What will my children do while I’m in worship?

Most every Sunday we have what we call “Kid’s Cave”.  This is for our children from 3 years old through 2nd grade.  The children will come to the front of the  auditorium during the offering time as we sing, “God Is So Good”.  They will gather on the stage for a prayer before they leave to go to Kid’s Cave.  There will be adults there waiting for them and will lead them to the classroom where their worship is held.  There will be members of our Children’s Ministry team there dedicated to teaching them in a fun environment.  We like for our children to stay in the worship service for a while so they can understand the importance of being together with church family, which is why we do not have our Kid’s Cavefor the entire hour.
We also have an attended nursery for those children younger than 3.  Please feel free to use this service.
